Short-Term Programs
NJSCIS offers a number of for-credit programs led by faculty members from one its member institutions. The dates and prices of these programs vary, and you should contact the coordinator for more information and for application procedures.
Rowan University
Geography of Europe (May 2008)
Students interested in traveling to and studying in France, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium, and earning 3 Rowan credits are encouraged to contact Dr. Denyse Lemaire of the Department of Geography and Anthropology. This trip will depart Philadelphia on May 21 and return June 4. The number of students will be limited to 20. The $3,300 price is all-inclusive (airline ticket on Air France, all transportation, activities, visits, tips, hotels, meals, drinks, and travel insurance). The three-credit course must be paid for separately. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to secure participation in the trip. Australia, French Polynesia, and New Zealand (July/August 2008)
participants are encouraged to contact Dr. Denyse Lemaire of the Department of Geography and Anthropology. The cost of this all-inclusive trip is $5,300 and includes 24 days, air and ground transportation, and all activities, meals, hotels, tips and accommodations. This one-credit independent study course “Independent Study in Geography” must be paid separately by students. The prospective departure date is July 23 and the return is August 15. The destinations include Sydney (New South Wales), Northern Queensland (the Great Barrier Reef), and the Northern Territory. Archaeology Field School in La Serena, Chile
This program provides hands-on experience for students interested in archaeology, bioarchaeology, and forensic anthropology. Students participate in a four to five week field experience at Serena where they are involved in archaeological conservation, a bioarchaeology research project, and forensic anthropology workshops. If funding is available, Serena invites the students to participate in an archaeological excavation in Chile.
